GEN Malaysia board proposes final dividend

Genting Malaysia's board on Monday recommended a final single-tier dividend of MYR0.05 (US$0.0122) per share of common stock last year.

The final dividend for 2018 to Genting Malaysia is still subject to ratification by shareholders at its June 5 board meeting. If agreed, the final dividend will be paid on July 23.

Genting Malaysia has its main business in the resort world Genting casino complex (pictured) in the Genting Highlands near the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The company, a unit of Malaysian conglomerate Genting Bhd, also operates casinos in the United States, the Bahamas, the United Kingdom and Egypt.

Genting Malaysia declared a special dividend of MYR0.08 in February when it reported fiscal year results for the year ended December 31, 2018. The company said in February that it had made a net loss of about MYR 19.6 million last year to Bursa Malaysia. In the previous year, the company made a net profit of about MYR 1.16 billion.

The company said the full-year loss was "mainly attributable to impairment losses of 1.83 billion yuan from the group's investment in promissory notes issued by the Mashfi Wimpanoag tribe," referring to attempts to invest in the U.S. tribal gaming venture.
