Hydrofoil, sailing to Macau, crashed into a seawall in the city's port on Friday morning in an accident that hit a busy waterway between Macau and Hong Kong.
Macau's health department said in a statement that about 70 people were injured in the incident. Of those injured, 59 were Hong Kong residents, the statement added.
A spokesman for the Macau Maritime Bureau said the high-speed ferry left Hong Kong about an hour early with 220 passengers and 13 crew members before hitting a concrete breakwater at around 9:30 a.m.
"I can say that most of them have minor injuries," the spokesperson said. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, the spokesperson said.
It is the second such incident in less than two months by the operator TurboJet on the Hong Kong-Macao ferry route. In late May, 33 people were injured when the Hong Kong-Macao ferry collided with a mainland Chinese vessel.
In late November last year, at least 85 people were injured when one of the company's ferries hit an "unidentified object" in the sea near a remote island in Hong Kong, one of the world's busiest waterways.
TurboJET is a subsidiary of Shun Tak Holdings Ltd., managed by Pansy Ho Chiu King.
